As the lasting economic and societal impacts of the Covid-9 pandemic are felt, the challenge of reducing deep-rooted inequalities is even greater than before. It has never been more critical to work collaboratively to really tackle these long-standing issues and try to reduce the risk of even more people being left behind.
At this time, there is a clear opportunity for wider systemic change to address these inequalities and work together with a wide range of stakeholders, with the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector recognised as a key driver and an equal partner, to help to achieve an inclusive economy for all individuals and communities across the North East over the long term.
With this aim, VONNE has developed a draft Inclusive Economy Manifesto, in partnership with the North East Local Infrastructure Organisations and in initial consultation with the North East Local Enterprise Partnership Area VCSE Skills, Inclusion and Employment Focus Group, made up of over two hundred diverse organisations including small locally based community groups and large-scale registered charities.
The manifesto sets out a VCSE sector vision for an inclusive economy in the North East, the critical role it can play in helping to achieve that and highlights key asks to ensure the sector is well equipped to play a fully active part in supporting individuals and communities to reach their full potential.
This will be the starting point of a meaningful dialogue with key strategic partners, including Local Enterprise Partnerships, combined authorities, local authorities, other statutory bodies, funders and commissioners, to discuss how we can all work together to make this happen.
Over the next few weeks we want to consult more widely with the VCSE sector to ensure that, ultimately, this manifesto provides a comprehensive reflection of its insights and views.
