The North East’s Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) is a comprehensive document detailing how the North East economy can, and will, grow in the coming years.
It was published in March 2014. It builds upon an evidence base established in 2012 for the policy environment of the time and defines how we will create more and better jobs for the North East LEP area. Since then, the economy has changed and new challenges and opportunities have emerged. We have agreed with the North East Combined Authority that now is the right time to refresh parts of the SEP, taking into account new evidence relating to the region’s economic position and evolving public policy environment.
The first step is to look at the progress we have made in delivering what we said we would do in the initial SEP. You can read all about our achievements in our progress review.
We have also published our economic analysis paper, which looks at the economic landscape today compared to 2014. Please get in touch if you have data that can enhance our evidence base or if there are areas you feel we should challenge. This is important as it relates to the North East economy and how we are positioned globally.
We are now inviting feedback and collaboration on the refresh, based around our engagement paper, which poses 21 key questions for discussion and feedback, including your thoughts on the potential impact of the UK’s decision to leave the European Union and the prospect of a devolution deal.
To make it easier for people to contribute, we have published our questions via Survey Monkey so responses can be made online. Your feedback is key to shaping the refreshed SEP and we hope colleagues across the North East LEP region will contribute their thoughts and ideas.
