Role description: Manager
We’re looking for an organised, practical and people-focused Community Hub & Operations Lead to join Riverside Community Health Project and help us make the Carnegie Building a welcoming, well-run community hub at the heart of Newcastle’s West End.
Location: Carnegie Building, Benwell, Newcastle upon Tyne
Hours: 28 hours per week
Salary: £35,500 per annum pro rata
Contract: Permanent
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys making things work well.
You’ll take the lead on the day-to-day operation of the Carnegie Building, helping to ensure it is safe, welcoming and efficiently organised for residents, staff, volunteers, partners and visitors.
You’ll oversee our reception and administration arrangements, coordinate room use and activities, supervise our administration and building support staff, and help manage maintenance, contractors, health and safety and operational systems.
You’ll also work closely with Riverside’s Chief Executive and managers, providing a central point of coordination across the organisation and helping us improve the systems and processes that support our community services. The role includes supporting organisational reporting, information gathering and planning, as well as coordinating our policy review arrangements.
Who are we looking for?
You might already work in a community organisation, charity, public service, office, community building or facilities environment. We’re particularly interested in someone who can combine good organisation with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
You’ll need experience of coordinating operations, administration or facilities, together with experience of supervising staff or volunteers. You should be confident managing competing priorities, working with a wide range of people and dealing calmly with the everyday issues that come with running a busy community building.
Experience of the charity or community sector, health and safety, or supporting monitoring and reporting would be helpful, but isn’t essential.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who will take ownership of the hub’s day-to-day operations and help create a positive experience for the communities and organisations who use the Carnegie Building.
We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and communities.
