Chief Executive Officer

Rainbow Home North

Lead a respected charity. Change lives. Shape our future.

Location: Home-based with regular travel across the North East
Salary: £48,638.60  FTE (full-time equivalent)
Hours: Up to 2.5 days per week (negotiable)
Contract: Permanent (subject to funding)

Rainbow Home North is a specialist charity supporting LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum, refugees and people recently granted leave to remain in the UK. We provide practical support, advocacy, community connection and a safe space for people who may have experienced persecution, discrimination, trauma and isolation.

As we approach our 15th anniversary, we are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference while leading a small, highly respected charity with a clear purpose and strong values.

About the role

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will provide strategic, operational and financial leadership across the organisation. Working closely with our staff team, volunteers, members, funders and partners, you will ensure Rainbow Home North remains sustainable, effective and responsive to the needs of LGBTQ+ people seeking sanctuary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading delivery of the charity's strategy and future development
  • Managing day-to-day operations and service delivery
  • Securing funding through grants, trusts and other income opportunities
  • Overseeing budgets, financial planning and reporting
  • Supporting and developing staff and volunteers
  • Building strong relationships with funders, partners and stakeholders
  • Ensuring effective governance, safeguarding and regulatory compliance
  • Acting as a visible ambassador for Rainbow Home North

About you

We are looking for a values-driven leader who combines strategic thinking with practical action.

You will bring:

  • Experience in senior leadership or operational management
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills
  • A successful track record in fundraising or income generation
  • Experience of managing and supporting staff
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Understanding of governance, safeguarding and organisational risk
  • The ability to work independently in a small charity environment

Experience of the voluntary sector, working with people seeking sanctuary, LGBTQ+ communities or other marginalised groups would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Why join us?

This is a rare opportunity to lead an established organisation that delivers life-changing support across the North East. You will work with a committed Board, dedicated staff and volunteers, and a community that values dignity, inclusion and belonging.

We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation.
