This Friday is National Energy Action's Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, and this year the focus is on ‘this winter and beyond’.

Every year, National Energy Action aims to raise awareness of the number of UK households living in fuel poverty.

In the current political and economic climate, and with the ongoing energy crisis the UK is facing, the campaign is needed more than ever. The average annual energy bill has almost doubled since this time last year-from £1,271 to £2,500- and it’s set to rise to £3,000 a year on average from April 2023 as Government support is withdrawn and the price cap is increased. There are nearly 9 million UK households predicted to be facing fuel poverty this winter.

To mark the day, National Energy Action will also be releasing new data on the numbers in fuel poverty from April 2023, and will also look at the numbers of specific vulnerable groups, including carers and people with disabilities.

They have also created a fuel poverty map, showing the levels in each area, and a template letter which you can customise and send to your MP to call for more support for the most vulnerable.

National Energy Action is also encouraging other charities and organisations to share on social media using the hashtag #FuelPovertyAwarenessDay what they are also doing to help those in fuel poverty, to highlight the fantastic work and support that’s making a real difference to those affected.
