The Strength of Weak Ties: how charitable trusts and foundations achieve more by working in complementary ways

Civil society in North East England is in good shape according to a report from The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

The organisation commissioned some research last year involving 25 national and regional charitable trusts and foundations, which asked: "Should foundations work together much more closely, with shared strategic objectives in mind, to maximise the benefit to North East England from their collective effort?"

Professor Tony Chapman, Director of Research and Professorial Fellow, Policy & Practice at St. Chad’s College, Durham University, feels the answer is no. In his latest blog, he said: "They achieve more by retaining their autonomy but working together in complementary ways or as good neighbours to one another."

Find out more about the strength Tony feels lies in keeping ties weak on his blog at tonychapmanblog.wordpress.com.
