VONNE is pleased to be able to support a further cohort of voluntary and community organisations through our Become Green Together programme.
Become Green Together is part of our Going Green Together pilot scheme to help the sector move towards Net Zero. The project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and County Durham community foundation, and is delivered in partnership with genee, SmartCarbon, Cumbria CVS and Cumbria Action for Sustainability. Since June 2022 we have expanded upon our initial environmental hub to provide support and training programmes, and new events and resources.
Become Green Together is a programme tailored to guide VCSE organisations through the process of becoming environmentally sustainable, through expert consultancy and nationally recognised accreditation with the Investors in the Environment framework. Over 45 organisations across the North East and Cumbria are already taking part, and supporting each other on their environmental journeys.
Become Green Together has helped provide tools and focus for us to take our climate action ambitions to the next level. Genee and Smart Carbon have been incredibly helpful and we feel so much more confident as to how we can move forward positively with our plan for net zero.

balletLORENT joined Become Green Together in October 2022, and the training and guidance we have received so far has been invaluable. We are well on our way to a much more detailed breakdown of our carbon footprint than was previously available to us, and are in the process of revamping and improving our environmental policy and action plans. The knowledge we have gained will vastly change the way we look at our impact, and I can’t recommend the programme enough.

Between April and May and July and September 2023, we’re opening applications for more organisations to join and get involved in this exciting opportunity to lead the sector’s response to the climate crisis. You can apply by filling out a short form on the Going Green Together website.
Thanks to our funders, the programme is heavily subsidised, with discounts of up to 75% available for participants. We’re also delighted that we have been able to set up bursary schemes to cover the costs of taking part for organisations in need, removing further financial barriers to becoming environmentally sustainable. Read about the Tees Valley bursary scheme and the County Durham bursary scheme on the dedicated Going Green Together blog.
If you have any questions about the programme, get in touch with our project coordinator Nathaniel Spain at Nathaniel.Spain@vonne.org.uk.
