Role description: Chair

VONNE is the regional membership body for the VCSE sector in the North East of England, supporting more than 1,500 members and the wider sector across the North East. Our vision is for a thriving VCSE sector supporting communities and addressing inequalities in the North East of England. We exist to support, promote and advocate for the North East VCSE sector to ensure it is better understood, supported and appreciated.

We are seeking a chair with a passion for the North East VCSE sector and the communities it supports.  At a time when local growth, economic inactivity and community wellbeing are high on the regional agenda, the VCSE sector is central to delivering solutions. VONNE is uniquely positioned as a trusted convenor to help the sector contribute effectively to these priorities and to strengthen collaboration across the region.

We’re looking for a chair who has an extensive knowledge of the type of work we undertake and a wider involvement with the voluntary sector, with experience and a deep understanding of charity governance and working through boards and committees. You will have proven leadership, communications and interpersonal skills, as well as integrity and impartiality.

Do you have the board experience and passion to lead us through the next exciting phase of our strategic plan?

If so, you’ll be supported by a fantastically talented staff and trustee team, who work collaboratively and inclusively to drive forward the impact of our work.

This is an unpaid position, although reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The time commitment is approximately one to two days per month.

How to apply

We are committed to inclusive recruitment. Please apply in the format that enables you to best demonstrate your skills and experience. This could be:

  • A CV and covering letter (no more than 2 sides of A4 for covering letter)
  • A short video or audio submission (no more than 5 minutes please)
  • A creative submission, e.g. slide deck or portfolio of engagement work

This should detail why you are interested in the post, how you meet the requirements detailed in the role description, and how you would see the organisation developing. We will ask for references from all shortlisted candidates at a later stage.

Please let us know if you need any reasonable adjustments to enable you to apply for this role and, if shortlisted, attend for interview.

The closing date is 31 July 2026 with interview dates TBC.

Please return completed applications and the form at the end of the recruitment document below to paula.rosenberg@vonne.org.uk.
