daNE's mission is to dramatically raise deaf awareness amongst the general public and communities by bringing together deaf and hearing people in social, working and learning environments. We also create and deliver learning programmes, provide research and create opportunities which facilitate good communications and interactions between hearing and deaf people. Using all forms of media, we create a positive image of the contribution that deaf people make to the wellbeing and prosperity of their local and wider communities and how hearing people can improve the quality of life of deaf people.

DEN, a deaf charity, leading provider of specialist service provisions; BSL Interpreting and other communication support, Community Outreach Support Service, BSL Training/Bespoke Deaf Awareness and Community Hub.

Deaflink North East

Core membership

We work with the D/deaf communities, predominantly in the north of Tyne area. We provide social and learning opportunities for BSL users and people with acquired hearing loss. We also provide support and advocacy, especially for BSL users accessing acute hospital care.

Dementia Care

Dementia Care was set up as a registered charity in 1993 to provide services for people with dementia and their carers. We provide specialist care, support and advice to people with dementia and other neurological disorders, such as acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. We offer 24-hour care in people's homes, respite care, dementia designed specialist day services at our centres in Newcastle upon Tyne and Hexham and our unique independent supported living housing. We also help carers and family members by sharing our knowledge through offering training and advice on practical care support and when needed, specialised respite care. As a care provider, we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and, as a registered charity, we are regulated by the Charity Commission (charity number 1045517).

We are a local neighbourhood youth and community project delivering a range of services to residents of all ages including a weekly lunch club, 3 open access play and youth sessions, an after school club, the Mature Action Group for over 50's and a full range of holiday activity programmes for children, young people and families. Other services and groups are on offer as and when users dictate a need.

Our mission is to reach out to those young people in the Derwentide area who are hard to reach by traditional means. Each of the projects teams are area based with the office being in the centre of Consett. We work with young people aged 12-25 with the aim to improve their quality of life, self-esteem and future life choices. We work on an informal basis and are able to respond to young people and their needs in flexible, appropriate and life enriching ways.

Difference is a new unifying disability rights organisation that represents disabled people in the North East of England and works to bring about significant and lasting social change. We are the first disability rights organisation dedicated solely to campaigning for disability equality in the North East since the 1990s saw the closure of Disability Action North East. Our objectives are: to promote equality for disabled people in the North East of England by aiming to identify and address the impact of disability discrimination and other factors which exclude disabled people from being equal participants in communities and society; and to highlight the ways in which disability discrimination is experienced in everyday life.
