​​The Gaunless Gateway Big Local Partnership is a resident led proactive organisation in South-West Bishop Auckland, representing the communities of Cockton Hill, Henknowle, Woodhouse Close/Tindale Crescent, St Helens Auckland and West Auckland, some of the most deprived wards in County Durham. It came together to identify the needs and aspirations of these local communities and to agree how best to use the £1 million Big Local fund available.

The Partnership’s objectives are to manage the ten year programme to meet the area’s long term vision and outcomes to make a positive and lasting difference to the communities of South West Bishop Auckland.

We are based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, and our aim is to promote wellbeing and positive mental health through prevention and early intervention initiatives; as well as ensuring that our community has access to good quality information, education and support around mental health. We want to do this by helping people who work with people; to develop skills and knowledge related to mental health and to provide communities and groups with access to relevant skills and information to maintain their own wellbeing. Our approach is underpinned by principles of community psychology and positive psychology, and the theoretical knowledge we draw on and skills we use from clinical psychology. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a flexible and dynamic approach which is needs led and adapted to suit your needs.

We provide free services including patient transport to hospital appointments, financial and benefits advice, respite breaks, social outings and monthly support meetings. Our aim is to reduce isolation, ease financial pressures and improve wellbeing during and after treatment
