Malignant Melanoma is particularly dangerous because of the risk of recurrence, owing to the skin being the largest organ in the body and every organ being made from skin. Malignant Melanoma cases have risen significantly in the past 40 years, having increased by 15 times. It is the fastest rising cancer than any other. What is particularly anxiety inducing about Malignant Melanoma is that it does not respond to treatment and that once you have a diagnosis, even early stage, there is no ‘all clear’ This can have an incredible impact on patients and carers mental health, as well as coming to terms with their own mortality and loss of life.
