"Opening Doors Newcastle Gateshead is a Community Interest Company (CIC) established to support people who manage community buildings and to provide networking opportunities.
It is a very exciting venture for us, as we have worked with and supported community groups in the area for many years - particularly those managing community buildings. The CIC was developed with the support of the community partners, including the Newcastle Community Buildings Network, to:
- ensure community assets are vibrant and thriving
- equip and enable people to identify their own solutions
- develop strong and active networks
We are working with partners in the east-end of the city to develop such a network. In addition we will be hosting regular city wide theme based networking events.
The objective is to ensure that community assets maximise their potential public benefit - opening doors to positive spaces which improve the quality of life for people and communities.
This is a difficult job as these are challenging times. Gas, electricity and other costs are going up, the traditional image of community buildings is generally not as appealing as it once was and it is hard to attract new volunteers. However, as public sector organisations are faced with even more reductions in the services they can provide, it is increasingly important these locally managed buildings can survive and thrive.
We believe the future for community buildings is positive. To achieve this we will bring together our collective experience and expertise, as well as tapping into the expert resources of others to complement and support existing skills."

Opera should be available, attractive and accessible to everyone, so we create opportunities for people in Sunderland to experience opera and singing as participants, performers and audience members.

Our work is professionally made and community based. We work with composers, writers, choir leaders, vocal coaches, directors, professional singers, designers and technical teams who are experts in their fields.

Our activities range from workshops and choirs, to song-writing projects, vocal coaching and fully staged productions.

We engage with people of all ages, we encourage people of all abilities, and we unite people through opera.

Established in London in 1959, we now work across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have developed a diverse art collection of almost 4,100 artworks and, as well as four artwork loan schemes, we now deliver art engagement projects and creative activities.
