The Toby Henderson Trust

The Toby Henderson Trust (TTHT) have created specialist development activities that stimulate communication between isolated autistic children and the world they live in. These activities use an intensive interactive play methodology that has been developed from an American model used by the Son Rise Institute in Massachusetts USA. This was first experienced and researched by Lesley Henderson in 1999.
Our approach is built around parent and carer observation of intensive interactive play. This assists in the development of a consistent approach while also boosting parent and carer understanding and engagement.
The trust also provides vital early stage support for parents and carers of newly diagnosed children who need to find their way in the maze of autism.
The Toby Henderson Trust is unique to Northumberland. We have an experienced and expert team who create and run early interventions with autistic children between 2 to 7 years old. Our interventions consistently deliver outstanding results for the child, parents and carers. Along with other follow on activities, our development process reduces the level of specialist care needed later in life. This results in a significant return on the investment you make in The Toby Henderson Trust, by producing long-term financial savings for education, health and care services.

We help children and young people transform their lives by helping them to:

The Women's Liberation Collective delivers the Own My Life course, an innovative, creative and educational resource supporting women and girls in regaining ownership of their lives when they have been subjected to abuse or violence.

The Young Womens Film Academy CIO

The Young Women’s Film Academy Cio is a registered charity (no. 1179614) led by women focused on improving the well-being of girls and young women while providing them with film making skills. Our aim is to support girls and young women aged up to 25 in the North East of England to advance their lives, through the provision of:
activities which develop skills, capacities and capabilities which will enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals;
the promotion of resilience and good mental health;
education and training

Theatre Space NE CIC

Theatre Space NE CIC creates theatre, performance, interactive characters and events as well as providing Theatre in education, and running youth theatres and community drama groups.

Theatre Space North East CIC

Our mission is to empower underserved communities across Sunderland and the North East through inclusive access to the arts. We use creativity as a tool to address local challenges such as social isolation, mental health, and youth unemployment. By delivering free and low-cost workshops, public art projects, and collaborative performances, we create space for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, express themselves, and build confidence. We regularly take drama and creative workshops into schools where participation in the arts is limited, with diverse populations and low socio-economic status. We are committed to breaking down barriers, financial, cultural, and physical, to ensure that everyone can participate meaningfully in the cultural life of their community. Operating since 2012, Theatre Space North East is an artist-led, award-winning Community Interest Company who, at the beginning of April 2023, were also granted CIO status. We produce high quality, accessible, midscale theatre for non-traditional spaces in Sunderland and the wider North East region as well as providing work placements (school, college and University) youth and community theatre and education work. We are committed to providing high quality employment opportunities in line with Equity standards for creative performers and practitioners here locally to support the creative sector as a viable career choice and especially give those still studying access to professional theatre opportunities.
