International Centre for Life Trust

The Centre for Life is the only public science centre in the North of England and welcomes around 280,000 visitors each year. Life’s mission is two-fold; to make science engaging and accessible to everyone and to provide infrastructure support so that world-class science on-site can flourish. The Life "science village" is a unique model combining research, medicine, business, ethics, education and public engagement.

We believe that engaging with informal science activities has many benefits: it can boost people’s self-confidence and social relationships within their family and peer groups; it can give them confidence to engage with the science and technology in everyday life and it can set them on a pathway to new leisure, education and career possibilities.

International Community Organisation of Sunderland (ICOS)

Website: icos.org.uk International Community Organisation of Sunderland (ICOS) exists to improve the quality of life of BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) people in the North East and to enhance community cohesion and intercultural understanding in this area. We focus on those who lack access to information and services to ensure equal access. We have particularly strong links to the Eastern European community, but we have also successfully worked with refugees, asylum seekers and BME people born in the UK. Currently, most of our work is delivered in Sunderland and the surrounding area. Our approach is to focus on both- assets of our community, as well as the issues that our community faces. While we are committed to supporting those in crisis, we strongly believe that it is our duty to prevent the crisis.

we see partnership work as key to our past and future success. We work closely with a variety of partners, including the Sunderland Black and Minority Ethnic Network, local councils (notably, Sunderland City Council), health authorities, emergency services, community organisations and local businesses.

We lead on Our Newcastle Our World – an international relations city plan and framework for action. We rely on strong partnership work to be able to explore and act together around priorities which will make a difference, in a way that is sustainable and has impact.

Jack Drum Arts

Jack Drum Arts is a sustainable, locally-based social enterprise providing engaging and inspiring creative opportunities for the communities of County Durham with a specific focus on South Durham. We are international in outlook whilst rooted in our local community with a team of 10 staff many of whom started their journey with us as a participant. Central to our mission is to improve the lives of those who are disadvantaged, promoting improved wellbeing, resilience, tackling loneliness and isolation using arts and cultural activities as our tool.

James' Place

We help men in suicidal crisis find hope for the future.

We offer free, life-saving treatment to suicidal men in the North East, Lonjdon and the North West. We provide a safe, friendly, therapeutic environment in which men are cared for and respected. Our mission is to help men aged 18+ who are in crisis, by providing quick access to short and focused one to one therapy which will help them to understand and recover from a suicidal crisis.

Supports children and young people up to the age of 24 who are palliative and have limited time. The Trust provides Cash Gifts, Dragonfly Dreams, Arts and Crafts and operates a Footprint Fund.
